There were disgraceful scenes in Bulgaria on Sunday as footballers from Israeli side Ashdod were chased from the field of play by pitch-invading CSKA Sofia supporters.
The maelstrom erupted in the first minute of added time with Ashdod leading the match 1-0.
The Bulgarian side’s supporters invaded the pitch, chasing after Ashdod’s players, some of whom fled to the opposing stand.
Dozens of Sofia fans then joined their red team on the pitch, and sprinted after their blue opposition, with the visiting side fleeing in various directions, some retreating to the vacant stands opposite, rushing up the stairs and out of the ground.
Bulgarian website Sportal.bg have reported that the Bulgarian supporters became increasingly agitated by the physical nature of Ashdod’s play, with the late lunge which proved the catalyst for the violence being the third dismissal of the game of the Israelis.
